In the year of 1968, a small group gathered for prayer meetings at 5208 Tidwell Rd, Houston, TX. Under the leadership of Isiah Thomas, the group was established as a church. Shortly thereafter about two years later, the church relocated to Denmark Street, Houston, TX.
The congregation consisted of Isiah Thomas, Shirley Walker, Chaney Walker, Delores Walker, Alice Thomas and Georgia Arnold. In order to prepare for the future of the church, a building fund program was established immediately. In support of the building fund endeavors, dinners were sponsored.
In 1984 Little Zion MBC outgrew it quarters and it became necessary to enlarge our facility. We moved to Allwood Street. In 1988, once again, it became necessary to seek larger quarters. God had given Pastor Isiah Thomas a vision of a larger church. Little Zion MBC members stood on a hill in back of the proposed church building and prayed for an answer from God. With little money and big prayers, the offer was accepted and the contract was signed for 7901 Tidwell. Under the leadership of Isiah Thomas, the Sunday School grew and so did the membership. The church Pastor Isiah Thomas saw in his vision is the church in which we now worship and own. To God be the glory for great things He has done!
In this decade that leads into the 21st century and a new millennium, we have already seen the growth promised. Numbers have been added to the church roster, but more than that, there is a spiritual depth and unity unequal in our past. Many programs have enhanced our fellowships, such as the Mid Year Musical and the End of the Year Musical of which the choir presents songs they have learned throughout the year.
We have reached a milestone of forty years of service in the ministry to the community and to the body of Christ. After the passing of our beloved Pastor Isiah Thomas, we are blessed by God to have Gene Thomas as Pastor of Little Zion MBC. We are grateful to God for counting him worthy to be assigned to this office. It is a high calling of God and an office, the integrity of which he is committed to uphold, that God, in all things, may be glorified in his life.
Over the course of these 40 years, we have celebrated weddings and new births, both spiritually and naturally. Our hearts have also felt the loss of those whom God saw fit to call to rest from their labor. To God be the glory for the things He has done!
